One Perfect Week in Ireland...Day 8

This is your last full day in Ireland.

I'll give you a moment to compose yourself.

Ok, lets move on.

Day 8 is awesome. You are going to wrap this sucker up with a bang because you are headed to Connemara.

Connemara National Park is about 1 1/2 hours away from Galway (depending on which route you take) but the drive really is beautiful so the time will fly by. One thing to keep in mind is that after today you will be leaving out of either Dublin or Shannon Airport. From Connemara, Shannon is a little closer (2 1/2 hrs versus 3 1/2) but I, personally, would base my decision on price and schedule. Once you have your flight time, you can decide where you should spend the night.

About halfway through your drive to Connemara you will come across viewpoints like this. Take the time to stop your car and walk down any little paths you see that lead to the shore.

Once we got to Connemara, we spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get this shot exactly right:

It was worth it, right?

Once that was accomplished, we stopped at the visitor center and decided to do the Diamond Hill Trail. It was just as advertised: beautiful, moderately challenging and windy as hell. There was only one other couple on the same trail as us and they gave up halfway through because it was just that windy. Out of sheer American go-get-it-ness, me and Jorge linked arms and trudged our way to the top. And yeah, it was worth it.

Connemara was probably my favorite place after Killarney, so if you have more than a week (or 8 days, whatever) you could definitely spend another day or two here...or a week..or a month...or you could move here if only your husband was willing to get with the program.

Need to get caught up on Day 7?
