The Norwegian Northern Lights
I didn't intend for us to see the northern lights. Like pretty much everything that happened during our vacation in Norway it was just a happy coincidence coupled with incredible luck.
We traveled from Bergen to Bodo and then on to the Lofotens in the beginning of September - a time of year that is usually a little early for the aurora. As luck would have it the exact week we were in northern Norway there was a 10 year high of astral activity. As a result, we saw the northern lights probably 6-7 out of the 8 days we were up there. I am not a good luck person so don't go jinxing me - this is like the ONE thing to go my way in quite awhile.
Naively, I thought that I could just record the whole thing on my iPhone and it would you know - come out exactly how I saw it. If you know anything about cameras you're laughing at me. Luckily Jorge knew exactly what to do so we were able to get shots like these.
Note: Jorge did some camera thing (long exposure?) in order to capture the aurora, but other than that these pictures have NOT BEEN TOUCHED UP at all. Truthfully, they're a shadow of the real thing and I felt like Lyra riding Iorek in Svalbard.
I don't know what to say about the Northern Lights. I feel so incredibly lucky to have seen them, and honestly it was so amazing that I almost felt like I could hear and feel them too. I don't think I would do a trip JUST to see them, because I know that can lead to disappointment, but if you ever get the chance - take it. I don't know if I will ever get an experience like this again and I feel so fortunate to have seen them at all.
